BBL Bacton Project

BBL PIPELINE.

BBL Company was formed to build, own and operate a pipeline to carry gas from the Netherlands to the UK national transmission system (nts).

S. Moorhouse was retained by the BBL Co through Gasunie, one of the major share holders, to act as thier site represntative at Bacton Norfolk the location of the BBL pipeline landfall.

Duties included reporting to the BBL management on all aspects of the landfall operation and on the acitivities of the construction contractors on the landfal and within the Shell gas facility. Also dealt on a day to day basis with sentitive PR issues and compliance with, or negotiating changes to, very detailed planning conditions imposed by North Norfolk District Council, relating to beach works and public access and amenity.

Contracts

BBL Co awarded an Engineer Procure and Construct (EPC) contract to Saipem (UK) Ltd for the design and construction of the pipeline crossing the North Sea and the landfall at Bacton Norfolk.

Saipem (UK) Ltd subcontracted the landfall element of the contract to Land & Marine.

DEsign and construction of the processing and metering facilities wiithin Shell and the onshore pipeline to National Grid Transco wre awarded to Amec by Shell acting for the BBL Co.


Landfall

The design and construction of the beach works coffer dams, pull back winches, and pipeline fabrication were carried out by Land & Marine - See pictorial record of activities in gallery click top left

The beach tunnel and the beach/cliff top shaft were designed by Mott McDonald.
